Mr. James B. Sumner, 74, of 13604 Grant Shook Rd., Greencastle, PA, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, PA. Born October 8, 1937 in Los Angeles, CA, he was the son of the late Benson R. and Ruth E. (Post) Sumner. He spent his early life in Seattle, WA. Mr. Sumner graduated from high school in 1955 and attended community college in the Seattle area and later received an engineering degree. Mr. Sumner served in the U.S. Navy Reserves for 10 years. He and his wife, Linda M. (Bolton) Sumner, were married on January 6, 1984 in Hagerstown, MD. They lived at their current residence since 2001. Mr. Sumner was employed as a CNC programmer by Boeing Helicopter, first in Seattle for 18 years and then in Philadelphia, PA for 7 years before retiring in 1995. Currently in retirement, he worked as a security officer for Wackenhut Corp., at Citi, Hagerstown. He was a member of Macedonia United Brethren in Christ Church, Christian Motorcycle Association and was a life member of the NRA. Mr. Sumner enjoyed flower gardening, was a Delaware state ranked racket ball player, played in many local softball leagues and was an accomplished marksman, winning several NRA competitions. In addition to his wife he is survived by his son, Edward Sumner, Nevada; three daughters: Mary Stager, Auburn, WA, Cindy Kimbal, Kent, WA, Julie Rugers, Netherlands; three stepsons: Paul E. Peer II, Greencastle, Patrick E. Peer, Greencastle, Michael T. Peer, Greencastle; 24 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; two brothers: Marvin Sumner, Sunnyvale, CA, Norman Sumner, Huntington Beach, CA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Shirley Sumner. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 17, 2012 in Macedonia United Brethren in Christ Church, 11887 Worleytown Rd., Greencastle, with Rev. Gayle L. Ruble, Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the church. Services are under the direction of Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle. In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made to Macedonia U.B.C. Church Building Fund, 11887 Worleytown Rd., Greencastle, PA 17225.
