James Borden Minturn, husband, father, grandfather and civic leader, passed away peacefully in his home Monday December 22nd at the age of 88.

Jim was born the sixth child to Albert and Lucy Minturn, in Roseburg, OR on July 2nd 1926.

He attended elementary school in Salem, and secondary school in Tillamook OR.

Jim joined the Army Air Corps during the height of WWII, and when the war was over he quickly refocused his energy and drive towards education. He attended Willamette University for both undergraduate and law school, graduating with a law degree in 1951.

After graduating, he moved to Prineville in 1952 to practice law until his retirement in 1994. His passion for service and involvement in the community is evident. He was an active member of the education system, long time member of Kiwanis, served on the hospital foundation board and rodeo board, and was a founder of the Wilderness Trail Riders.

The other side of Jim was the family man, the world traveler, carpenter, gardener, the pie baker and ice cream maker, the baby tooth extractor, the pool boy, the ultimate handy-man, and the best grandpa we could ask for.

Jim is survived by his wife, Barbara (Hinds) of 60 years, their 4 children and 14 grandchildren.

He is an undying legacy.

There will a memorial service to celebrate his life January 4th 2:30 pm at the Crook County High School Auditorium. Details handled by Prineville Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of the Ochocos or Crook County Historical Society.
