James D. Ratliff went home to be with the Lord May 2, 2017 in The Woodlands, Texas. Jim was born August 13, 1925 in Seymour, Texas. He went to High School in Glen Rose, Texas and joined the US Navy in November 1943, serving with distinction until May of 1946. He was awarded the Air Medal for meritorious achievement as a radioman of a torpedo bomber aboard the USS Belleau Wood in action in the Japanese homeland. Jim returned to Glen Rose after discharge and worked for General Dynamics for 41 years, retiring in 1989. His faith in the Lord was strong and the families joy is that "to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord" is the believers promise when our days here end. Jim's wife of 44 years, Naray, preceded him in 2014 as did his brother Tracy and sister Sue. He is survived by his daughter Patricia Jacobs and son, Steven Omelan and his wife Donna, grandson John Omelan and his wife Kirsten, granddaughter Michelle Baumbach and her husband Donald, granddaughter Cheryl Scalf and her husband Michael, and granddaughter Stephanie Barker and her husband Eddy. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Hannah, Ivan, Janelle, Mason, Trey, Logan, Ivan, and Abigail. He will be buried next to NaRay in Belton, Texas on Saturday, May 13, 2017. In lieu of flowers, Bibles should be placed in the memory of James D. Ratliff through the Gideon ministry. The family wishes to thank the staff at Silverado in the Woodlands for their care of our father, grandfather, and great grandfather during the last days of his life. And we would like to express our sincere appreciation to Dad's nephew Jim Huffman and his wife Susie for their care and companionship. Arrangements under the direction of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, Temple, TX.
