James Edwin Rea was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on November 4, 1946 to Gus W. Rea II and Dorothy Mae Rea. He spent most of his early years of life in South Texas until he enlisted in the Navy in 1965. While in the Navy he was assigned to the USS Ranger during the Vietnam War, where he worked in the catapult division. After proudly serving his country he received his honorable discharge in 1969 and took up residence in Irving, Texas, where his parents had relocated.

In 1970 he met and married his wife of 47 years, Carol Slatts Rea. They raised two daughters, Lisa and Wendy, in Grand Prairie where they resided during their 47 years of marriage. He was employed by Allied Aviation Fueling at Love Field and then Dallas Fort Worth Airport. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed building remote control airplanes with his father-in-law. His greatest joy was his grandchildren who lovingly called him Papa. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gus W. Rea II and Dorothy Mae Rea and a brother Richard Wayne Rea. He leaves behind his wife, Carol Slatts Rea; brother. Gus W. Rea III and his wife Saundra; daughter, Lisa McClurg and her family Keny, Jack and Megan from Carrollton, Texas; daughter Wendy Lynn Melton and her family Andy, Haley, Nicholas and Hope from Cherryfield, Maine; along with many loved nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his family who find comfort in knowing that he has found peace in the loving arms of our Savior.
