James Gordon Moad, of Aurora, Oregon, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 7, 2017. James was born in Rex, Oregon to parents Marshall and Gladys Moad on April 28, 1938. Around 1 year old James came down with whooping cough, which ended up costing him his hearing. He attended Salem School for Deaf, where he stayed in dorms on campus. His parents would come every 3 weeks, pick him up and bring him home for the weekend, he graduated in 1957. Most people would assume that being mostly deaf would stop James from doing anything past going to school, but they would be wrong. After graduating he attended a trade school to be a shoe cobbler. Upon completion James got a job working for Meier & Frank in the Shoe Repair Department. 2 years later he wanted to do more and make more money for him and his family; which is when he started his work for Portland Willamette Fire Screens, where he worked for 27 years then retired.
James was married to Lois F Kyes. They met at Rose City Deaf Club in Portland, Oregon. After only knowing each other for 8 months, they knew it was love, that's when they got married in August of 1962. They were married 54 years.
James enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to the beach, camping and making people laugh; but what he loved the most was bowling, he was on many bowling teams. He loved to cook and had piles of cook books. He always put family first, no matter what. James could speak very well and didn't let his lack of hearing slow him down, also used it to become very good at reading lips.
James is survived by Wife Lois Fern Moad (Aurora, OR), and Sisters Frances Pappas (Ventura, CA) and Nancy Gibbons ( Canby, OR), Daughter Lynnette (Ray) Lewis (Aurora, OR), Grandchildren Jeffrey (Amanda) Lewis, and Raelyn Lewis (Aurora, OR), Great Grandchildren Madelyn and Alexis Lewis (Aurora, OR).
The funeral service will be held at 1pm on January 24th, 2017 at Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Lyle Waldo and Kendall Joyce will be officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at Skyline Memorial Gardens.
