James J. Valicoff Jr., 90. of Spring Hill, Florida and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at his home. He was born February 17, 1922. He and his late wife were the owner and operator of Comet Dry Cleaning in Wood River for 40 years until their retirement. The United States Air Force veteran proudly served his country during World War II and was the recipient of many medals and awards. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City and the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed his days of golfing and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores A. (Schwier) Valicoff whom passed away on December 19, 1989; his parents, James J. and Helen (Jankowski) Valicoff Sr. and a son, James "Bud" Valicoff. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Katherine Valicoff of Safety Harbor, Florida and Dr. Philip and Darlene Valicoff of Maryville; seven grandchildren, Ron Nix, Zach Valicoff, Sean Murphy, Michelle Murphy, Kelly Steinacher, Scott Valicoff and Matt Valicoff; three great grandchildren; one brother, George Valicoff of St. Louis, Missouri; other extended family and friends. In celebration of his life, memorial visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 1:00 p.m. with Father Chris Comerford officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice and may be accepted at the funeral home.
