James Robert Jim Gibbs, 31, of Granby, passed away on Monday, (April 3, 2006) at his home. Jim grew up in Torrington and was a 1993 graduate and honor student at Torrington High School where he participated in cross-country, track and band. He also graduated from Holyoke Community College with an Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts and attended Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, MA, majoring in History. Jim was employed in Computer Research at CompetativEdge in Colchester for the past nine years. He was an avid gardener and especially enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden. He was a former member of the Torrington United Methodist Church and attended the South Congregational Church in Granby. Jim is survived by his mother, Marilyn (Shisler) Gibbs of Granby; his father, Robert L. Gibbs and his wife Judith Loewi of Simsbury; a sister, Jennifer and her husband Peter Bestel of Sydney, Australia; and a half-brother, Dillon Loewi Gibbs, age 9, of Simsbury. He is also survived by his maternal grandfather, Wilbur Shisler and his wife Marie of Wooster, OH; two aunts, Margaret Schmitt of Westchester, PA; and Patricia Casey of Dayton, OH; cousins, Dianna Orzech of Meriden and Kenneth Gibbs of Southington; and several other cousins. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 8, 11 a.m., at the South Congregational Church, 242 Salmon Brook St., Granby, with the Rev. Mark Diters and the Rev. Dr. Robert McNaughton officiating. His family will receive friends following the service in the church parish hall.
