James E. Kern lost his long battle with cancer, and passed away peacefully at home on September 1, 2016 with his family by his side. He was 77.
He was born June 14, 1939, he married his best friend, Karen, on December 24, 1959. They have 3 daughters: Laura Lyn Kern (deceased), Jamie Gillingham, married to Tom Gillingham, and Jennifer Bryant, married to David Bryant, and son-in-law, Daniel Emmons;
10 grandchildren and their spouses: Amanda and Derek Brower, Andrea and Josh Carpenter, Neva and Alec Lovelady, Charles Emmons, Erin Gillingham, Stephen Emmons, Casey Gillingham, Erin Bryant, Thomas Bryant and Leah and Phillip Nelson; seven great-grandchildren: Austin, Braxton and Deacon Brower, Mariah, Belle and Lana Carpenter, Xander Lovelady and Aven Lovelady, to soon join the family. Two older brothers also survive: John (Pat) Kern and Bill (Jane) Kern.
Jim was a radio DJ and news director for many years before answering God's call to become a minister. He ministered to several churches throughout the years and spent the last 20 plus years as the minister of the Ellery and Browns Christian Churches in Illinois. The love between Jim and his congregations was mutual.
Jim was also a lifelong Miami Dolphins fan.
A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at 2PM (central time) on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Ingram Funeral Home in Albion, IL .
A visitation will be held from noon to service time at 2PM at the funeral home.
Jim was a true believer in the cause of St. Jude Children's Hospital and the family asks that
