James Lee Jennings, 69 of Novato, California passed away in his sleep on April 24, 2017. He was born in Moline, Illinois on October 11, 1947. Jim graduated from Rock Island High School and attended Black Hawk College. He served in the United States Air Force, eventually being stationed at Strategic Air Command Headquarters at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.

He was married to Linda Arlene Phipps of Davenport, Iowa on June 7, 1969. They had one son, Brian Lee Jennings born in 1971.

Jim and Linda moved to California in 1973, settling in Novato where he lived for the rest of his life. A self-made man, he worked in the financial services industry. In 1995 he started his own company, Collateral Specialists Inc. to provide auditing services for asset based lenders. At the time of his passing, the company had four offices and employed over seven hundred employees across the United States.

An avid fisherman and traveler, Jim and Linda traveled throughout New England annually to see the fall foliage. He enjoyed visiting New York City every year at Christmas time. He traveled for both business and pleasure, visiting Europe, Aruba, Puerto Rico, Canada and most of the United States. In 2008, he traveled extensively through Italy with his son, Brian. He enjoyed fishing for salmon in Alaska and British Columbia.

A cat lover, he had a number of cats over his life, including Sinbad, a Siamese who would greet him at the door every day and usually slept next to him.

Preceded in death by one half-brother, James is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Linda and their son Brian, who worked with him for twenty years, two half-sisters and one half brother.

Services will be held Wednesday, May 3rd 2017 at Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, 650 Bugeia Ln, Novato, California. Visitation to begin at 10am with Funeral Services at 12pm with Burial and Reception to follow. Services being provided by Keaton's Redwood Chapel of Marin (415) 897-1151
