James Louis (Jamey) Conner, 53, ended his journey in this life on March 16, 2012, surrounded by his family and his friends from Mission Home. Jamey was born on February 27, 1959 in Springfield, Massachusetts and lived with his family in New Mexico before moving to Virginia. Jamey became a resident at Mission Home in 1967, where he found a nurturing and loving environment among extraordinary people who dedicate their lives to assisting children who, like Jamey, have special needs. Jamey also continued to spend time with his family, spending holidays and vacations in Yorktown. As Jamey grew, he acquired many skills and particularly liked helping feed the animals raised at Mission Home. It was there that Jamey developed a great love of music and joined in the singing of hymns, proving that vocal music needs not words, just a melody shared with love. In his last hours he was surrounded by the sound of these hymns, sung by the residents, counselors and parents of Mission Home. Jamey was preceded in death by his father, James Clark Conner and is survived by his mother, Velma, his sisters Esther and Lisa, his brother Michael, and nephews Sean, Brandon, Christopher and Justin and nieces Jessica, Allie and Laurellei. A funeral service will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Faith Mission Home Chapel. An interment service will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Mission Home, 3450 Mission Home Lane, Free Union, VA 22940.
