Springfield, IL- Pastor James M. Weis, M.Div., 80, of Springfield, went to be with his Savior, Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017.

He was born in Cape Girardeau, MO, March 14, 1936 the son of Albert J. and Alma Weis. His parents and his sister, Mary Kikendul preceded him in death.

Jim graduated from St. Paul Academy (now St. Paul's College) in Concordia, MO and then earned his M.Div. from Concordia Theological Seminary, LCMS, St. Louis MO in 1960. He worked at the seminary for a year before becoming a Professor of Church History at Concordia Theological Seminary, LCMS, in Springfield, IL, until 1976.

In retirement, Pastor Weis served as the assistant pastor at Our Savior's Lutheran Church and School in Springfield, where he taught several bible classes, primarily, the Seekers Class, and was involved in many other areas of ministry. He also taught bible classes at Concordia Village for several years.

While living in an apartment here in Springfield, Pastor met his new neighbor, Sharon Jennings, who needed assistance with a door lock. They married Nov. 23, 1984 and she survives. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins as well as two aunts.

Visitation: The Weis family will greet family and friends at Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield, from 3-7 pm Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, with additional visitation, Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church 2645 Old Jacksonville Rd., Springfield, from 9:15 am until 9:45 am Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017 at Our Savior's with Rev. Joshua T. Traxel and Rev. Dr. Wayne P. Hoffman officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:00 pm Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017 at the Ebenezer Cemetery, Olney, IL.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may direct memorial contributions to Our Savior's Lutheran Church and School, 2645 Old Jacksonville Rd., Springfield, IL 62704.
