James Maffett, Jr., age 100, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at his residence. He was born September 14, 1917 to James Maffett, Sr., and Carrie Alice Watts Maffett. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. James was a farmer and had worked for Pontotoc County District 4. He was a WWII Army Veteran. James enjoyed hunting, raising watermelons and gardening, sitting on his front porch, and spending time with his family and friends.

Services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Melvin Crawley and Rev. David Westmoreland officiating; burial will follow in Immanuel Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his two daughters, Beverly Gunter (Jim) and Kim Russell (Kelly); one son, Hoppy Maffett (Patsy); fourteen grandchildren, Steve Sanders (Courtney), Barbara Rezell (Jim), Joey Sanders, Doug McFarland (Debra), Carrie Lovelace, Rachel Ross (Will), Ben Sanders (Carrie), Becky Stanton (Wesley), Brady Maffett, Cory Maffett (Jessica), Shannon Gunter (Dionne), Wesley Gunter, Garrett Russell and Michaela Russell; twenty great-grandchildren, Diane, Susan, Jennifer, Patrick, Makenzie, Caroline, Sarah, Gracie, Mary Margaret, Meridith, Ellis, Mallie, Marion Kate, Jayla, Ashton, Wyatt, Dylan, Morgan, Sanders Colt and Jacky Ryan; and three great-great-grandchildren, Cooper, Mary Ella and Sam.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Margaret Guinn Westbrook Maffett, a daughter, Sandra Sanders (Bill); four sisters, Charlotte Maffett, Mary Weeks, J.C. Rowland and Zana Pound; and one brother, Preston Maffett.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home and from 1 to 2 PM Wednesday at Immanuel Baptist Church.
