James Orvis Cary, 95, passed away in Dallas, TX on January 11, 2018, pain and illness free, the peaceful passing of which we all should dream. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, Korea and one reason it is called "the Greatest Generation."
Born on January 22, 1922 in Hot Springs, AR to the late James A. and Thelma Cary, he graduated from high school in Los Angeles, CA and earned a bachelors degree from SMU. In 1941, he joined the US Army and served 22 years from Africa to Alaska, including the incredibly courageous battle of Salerno, Italy. He had a 31 year career with the Texas State Comptrollers and 26 years as a volunteer Reserve Dallas County Deputy Sheriff where he continued to hone his handgun skills, a passion that he was able to continue until his death. Jim was a dedicated member of Park Cities Baptist Church for almost 40 years.
Known as an honorable and courageous man, Jim was a loving husband, father and hero to his 2 daughters. He married Patricia Morrison Cary in 1946 and they were married almost 60 years when she preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughters, Kathleen McCollum Threadgill, her husband Tim; JoAnn Ryan, her husband John; grandchildren Christian McCollum, wife Amy, James McCollum, Emily Taylor, husband JR, David Albers, Ryan Albers, Bailey Ryan and JP Ryan as well as 7 great grandchildren, half brother David Lewis and other extended family.
Visitation: Sunday January 14, 2-4pm Sparkman Hillcrest
Burial: Tuesday, Jan 16, 11am, DFW National Cemetery
Memorial Service: Tuesday, Jan 16, 2pm Park Cities Baptist Church, officiated by Reverend Dr. Jack Martin.
