James Patrick Carrigan, 58, of Wadmalaw Island, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, March 30, 2018, after a long brave battle against colon cancer. His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 5, 2018 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens.

James was born on May 7, 1959 in Wichita Falls, Texas and moved to North Charleston in 1965. He was a graduate of Garrett High School. James was the proud owner of a successful construction business primarily on Kiawah and Seabrook for over 25 years. He was well respected for his knowledge and skills and admired for his kindness, honesty and sunny disposition. James enjoyed the hard work and daily challenges of the job site. He maintained a position at the top of his field by his willingness to go the extra mile and his persistent, unfailing positive attitude. James began each day with a smile and looked forward to every day of work. He truly loved the building industry and cared deeply for the people he worked with. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and everyone who met him became a friend.

James was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed water skiing, hunting and riding horses. He also loved riding Harleys and restoring classic cars. However, what James loved most was spending time with his family. He was the center of their lives.

James was predeceased by his father, James Chauncey Carrigan, his mother Frances Cole Carrigan Royle and favorite uncle H.M. Cole. He is survived by Cathy Thomas Carrigan, his loving wife of 28 years, daughter Amy Lever-Neilson (Jimmy), son Scott Thomas, grandson Capers Lever, granddaughter Jessica Neilson, sister Karen White (Richard) with whom he had a very close and loving relationship, his beloved yellow lab Molly and many, many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

The family would like to thank Dr. David Ellison, Mary and Ashley, for the excellent care over the last eight years as well as the chemo nurses at CHOA for their kindness and loving compassion.
