BELLEVILLE- James "Rambo" Russell Ramsey, 68, of Belleville passed away suddenly Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at his residence.
He was born November 10, 1949 in Fairfield, OH a son of Ben F. and Marjorie (nee Medhurst) Ramsey.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are his sisters, Janice (James) Johnston of Belleville, Yvonne (Raymond, deceased) Mann of Belleville, Juanita Ramsey of Belleville, Marianne (Edward) Nold of New Athens, and Birdie (Ricky Baby) Brown of Belleville; one brother, Mike (Patricia) Ramsey of Red Bud; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Mr. Ramsey was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He received the Riffle Expert Badge, National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
James was a great uncle and loved his family. He was an avid fisherman, woodworker, and craftsman. He enjoyed making toys and games for his nieces and nephews.
James graduated from SIU Edwardsville. He started teaching Math at Althoff Catholic High School. He later worked as a roofer for Ajax Roofing for over 20 years until he decided to become a Boilermaker. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 363 and served as past Union Steward.
Jim donated over 100 pints of blood to the American Red Cross over the years.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. The family will be leaving Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home at 10 a.m. to travel in procession to the cemetery anyone that knew Jim and will be attending the service is welcome to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the American Diabetes Association Mid-America Transplant or a charity of choice.
