Jane M. Metzler-Potz, 49, of Mansfield Center died peacefully on Thursday (March 23, 2006). Born on November 16, 1956 in Freeport, Long Island, N.Y., she was the daughter of George and Marie (Bolella) Metzler of Windsor. A graduate of Windsor High School with the Class of 1974, she went on to graduate from UCONN with a BA in 1979 and then the University of Hartford with a Masters in Public Administration in 1986. Jane was a key staff member at Windham Regional Community Council since 1983. She began as the Director of the Youth Services Bureau providing crisis intervention and positive youth development programs. For eleven years Jane served as the Associate Director where she oversaw programs targeted to improve the maternal and infant healthcare system, and the delivery of HIV and AIDS prevention, as well as to lead the agency's development of supportive housing services. Throughout her career she received a number of awards including the national Daily Point of Light Award that honors individuals committed to community service, the Friend of Youth Services award sponsored by the CT Youth Services Bureau Assoc., the Soroptimist International of Willimantic award for Advancing the Status of Women, as well as other awards for services to which Jane dedicated her life. Known for her caring, loving, and generous nature, Jane was a beautiful and energetic woman who was an inspiration and source of strength to all. Besides her husband David, and parents, George and Marie Metzler of Windsor, she leaves twin children, Emma and Tyler Potz of Mansfield Center; a brother, Ken Metzler and his wife Betty of Willington; two sisters, Susan Kirkman and her husband Robert of FL, and Corinne Martin and her husband Kevin of Windsor; 13 nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, dozens of cousins; special friends and co-workers, too many to mention. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, March 27, 10a.m. at St. Gabriel Church, 379 Broad St., Windsor. Burial will be private at the request of her family. Her family will receive friends on Saturday, 4-7 p.m. at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave, Windsor. A Memorial Service will also be held on Saturday, April 1, 2006, 2 p.m. at the Friends Meeting House, 57 Hunting Lodge Rd, Storrs, CT. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Jane's name for Emma and Tyler's education to Liberty Bank, 679 Main Street, Willimantic, CT 06226, attention, Pauline Lazzari.
