Jane S. Adams of Glastonbury died December 29th, at home in Glastonbury, surrounded by family, a few days past her 85th Christmas birthday. She was the beloved widow of the late James C. Adams, Jr., who predeceased her in 2010 and with whom she shared almost 60 years of marriage.

Born December 25, 1932, she was raised in Hingham, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Gilbert and Elizabeth M. Smiley. She attended Derby Academy, Dana Hall, and Connecticut College.

A devoted wife, mother, homemaker, volunteer, and businesswoman who resided in Glastonbury and South Glastonbury for over 50 years. She was a founding member of Child and Family Services (now known as the Village for Families and Children) Thrift Shop, currently called the Second Chance Shop. A Girl Scout Leader, she was also active in tennis and golf at Glastonbury Hills Country Club, Orchard Hill Swim Club, a member of the Glastonbury Historical Society, and a docent at the Wells Shipman Ward House. She also served on the board of the First Federal Savings Bank.

An avid gardener, she was a member of Hill and Dale Garden Club and the Friendly Garden Club and did flower arrangements for years for the South Congregational Church. She was also an avid collector of antiques and organized many outings for friends scouring area antique shops. For several years, she sold designer clothing for Doncaster.

Her greatest passions involved caring for her family and many friends and animals, gathered around the table for meals on Foote Road and Littel Acres, playing cards with her beloved bridge clubs, and gamely preparing vegetables, fish, and fowl grown and caught by her beloved husband, Jay.

She is survived by her sister Lee S. Adams of Duxbury, MA; her daughter Constance L. Adams and son-in-law John Keilch of Westfield, MA; son James C. Adams III and daughter-in-law Lisa of Glastonbury; son Gilbert S. Adams and daughter-in-law Kim of Medfield, MA; and daughter Patricia Adams and son-in-law Todd Balf of Beverly, MA.
