Funeral services for Jean Ann Cole, age 77 of State Hwy 11B, Nicholville, will be held on Tuesday (September 27, 2011) at 11:00AM at the Holy Cross Church in Hopkinton with Rev. Alfred Fish officiating. Burial will follow the service at Mound Hill Cemetery in Nicholville, NY.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Mrs. Cole passed away on Saturday (Sept 24, 2011) at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena where she had been a resident since July. Arrangements are with Fox & Murray Funeral Home in Ogdensburg.

Surviving is her husband Kenneth R. Cole of Nicholville; five sons Kenneth J. Cole & his wife Karen of Heuvelton, Joseph G. Cole & his wife Annie of St. Regis Falls, Charles P. Cole & his wife Lori of Hilton, Christopher P. Cole & his wife Sue of Heuvelton, Jeffery L. Cole & his wife Darlene of North Lawrence; two daughters Mrs. Frank (Mary) Arcadi of St. Regis Falls, Mrs. Gregory (Molly) Caron of Winthrop; three sisters Mrs. Richard (Mary) Barlow of Heuvelton, Mrs. Daniel (Ellen) Prosser of Webster, Mrs. Matthew (Patricia) Knox of Bedford, VA; four brothers Joseph Durant & his wife Mary of Brunswick, GA, James Durant & his wife Judy of Helena, Paul Durant & his wife Denise of Norfolk and Arthur Premo & his wife Susan of Massena; an aunt Shirley Lauber of Oklahoma ; 16 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren her mother-in-law Catherine Cole of Tupper Lake and several nieces, nephews & cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents George & Hazel Durant and a brother Jerry Durant.

Jean was born on April 17, 1934 in Massena, NY a daughter of the late George J. & Hazel (Premo) Durant. She attended Helena Grade School and graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in Brasher, NY. She married Kenneth R. Cole on October 23, 1952 at the St. Patrick's Church in Hogansburg. After the couple's marriage, they live in Helena for 3 years and then moved to their present home in Nicholville in 1956. In 1970 she began working at the St. Regis Falls Central Headstart, where she worked for 8 ½ years as a parent coordinator. In 1989 she became employed with the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier in North Lawrence until 1997 when she retired.

Jean was an active Holy Cross Church parishioner and Alter & Rosary Society member and an active member of TOPS NY 857 in N. Lawrence. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crafting braided rugs, her vegetable & flower gardens, canning, collecting dolls, bird watching, the good old days of playing softball on "Molly's Dollies" and spending time with her family.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Tri-Town Rescue Squad in Brasher, NY, the St. Regis Nursing Home Memorial Fund in Massena or the TOPS NY 857 in North Lawrence.
