Jean Ann Everham, age 89, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2016 after a lengthy illness. She was born and grew up in Detroit, moving to St. Clair Shores in 1952 to raise her family. She was a faithful Episcopalian attending St Columba and St Michael's churches.

Jean, a dedicated secretary, retired from South Lake School District after many years of steadfast service. She also worked for St. Clair Shores Adult education and as a proctor for college testing. During her working years she was a chaperone for the hockey cheerleaders and the drama club among other high school activities. She maintained friendships and correspondence with many former co-workers, including her famous birthday card list, until her illness prevented it.

Although family was her number one priority, volunteerism was important to her as well. Jean spent many years volunteering at Crossroads of Michigan as a trained counselor. Everyone who knew her recognized her big heart for animals. In addition to volunteering her time cooking special food for the recovering dogs and cats, she regularly saved and unfolded newspapers for bedding at Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society. She experienced the mutual benefits of being a loving owner of many cats and dogs. Over her lifetime, she provided financial contributions to a wide variety of charities. Regular Red Cross blood donations were part of her adult life.

Jean enjoyed sports, especially the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings, attending plays and symphonies, travel, and meeting new people. She loved many summers camping in the upper peninsula with her sons. After her children were grown, she enjoyed several annual bus and train trips across the U.S., where she made stops in several states to enjoy time with four of her siblings during their lifetimes.

Jean was the selflessly devoted and loving mother of Cathy (Guy) Perkins, Beth (Jerry) Stafford, Janet Dodoro, Edwin (Karyn) and Bill; dear grandmother and great grandmother of many. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Jean touched each person she met in a profound way.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jean's name to Crossroads of Michigan 2424 W Grand Blvd Detroit, MI 48208 or Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society 13569 Joseph Campau Detroit MI 48212.
