Jean Bryland of Raleigh, NC passed away on September 20, 2017, after a courageous six month battle with cancer. Born on October 24, 1945 in Orlando, Florida; She was the daughter of the late Charles Edward Land and Margaret Land Sauls.

Jean dearly enjoyed music, dancing, golf and tending to her furry pets. Jean also enjoyed spending time at her lake house and time with friends and family. Jean was a very accomplished shag dancer and teacher. She started shag at the early age of 16 in Chadbourn, NC and had many memorable moments at Ocean Drive "Shaggin the Night Away".

Jean attended college at Women's College, now known as UNCG. She has worked in various positions, one of which was the editor of Tarheel Magazine covering articles on Frank White, the Southern Sportsman, whom piloted the zebra striped airplane. Jean also had the privilege of a lengthy interview with the late Andy Griffith at his home on the Outer Banks. Jean's latest position was with the NC Poultry Association, which she dearly loved. Her interesting career and accomplishments could go on and on.

She is lovingly remembered by her brother Robert and his wife Myra Land of Albemarle, NC, niece, Carmen Harris and husband Jason of Durham, NC and nephew, Bryan Land and wife Lisa of Charlotte, NC, cousins, Martha and Billy McLawhorn of New Bern, NC and Lynn and wife Cathy Gore of Gainesville, Florida, also extended family, Harvin and Ann Sauls, their son, Thomas and daughter Sarah.

Jean is also lovingly remembered by a very special dear friend and care giver, David Kempert, who has been so instrumental in Jean's care & her every need through the past six months.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 30 at 11:00 AM at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27612.
