Jerry Allen Dicus, 78, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed from this life to the next on January 2, 2017 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

He was born September 8, 1938 in Allendale, Illinois to Grace (Dardeen) and William Thurman Dicus. He married Charlene (Clark) on September 2, 1961 and she preceded him in death in 1996.

Jerry was a carpenter, and it was his passion. He enjoyed bowling, and was in bowling leagues in his younger days. He was a proud Army Veteran.

He is survived by one daughter, Georgianna "Georgi" (Kirby) Flowers of Carrollton, Illinois; two sons: Patrick Allen Dicus of Mt. Carmel, Illinois and Shawn Michael (Tracy) Dicus of Bartlett, Illinois; four sisters: Carol Jean Crouch of Mt. Carmel, Mary Lee Day of Princeton, Indiana, Fern Couch of Lawrenceville, Illinois, and Barbara (Jim) Hatfield, of Dunedin, Florida; one brother, Bobby (Virginia) Dicus of Mt. Carmel; and four grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four sisters: Virginia, Bonnie, Juanita, and Maxine, and two brothers: Willard and Billy.

Jerry's greatest joy was his grandchildren and he delighted in every moment spent with them. In February of 2010 he was elated when his first grandchild, Caitlin Dicus, was born. One word about her would make him smile and he delighted in every picture that he was sent and every minute he spent with her. The following year he was blessed again with grandchildren through his daughter's marriage to a man with three children from a previous marriage. These grandchildren: Leah Flowers, Krista (Goncalo) De Albuquerque, and Brett Flowers were loved and welcomed into the family with open arms. He loved hearing updates about their lives and seeing them when possible. While distance and his health problems limited the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren, his love for them and the memories remain.

Per Jerry's wishes, cremation rites were accorded. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 20, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Ingram Funeral Home in Allendale. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m until the time of service. Inurnment, with military rites, will follow at Allendale Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, and envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
