SOUTH PEKIN ~ Jerry Lynn Godbey, 56, of South Pekin, passed away at 11:06 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born July 17, 1963 in Pekin to James Edwin and Janice Lee (Tarr) Godbey, he married Gayle Cline on August 28, 1998. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Ashley Hays, T.J. (Samantha) Hays, and Emiley (Anthony) Mudd; five grandchildren, Riley Schacherbauer, Hailey Hays, Gracie Mudd, Addilee Mudd, and Parker Hays; his mother and step-father, Janice and Don Sieling; three brothers James (Joyce), Jason (Stella) and Jeff (Brenda) Godbey and two sisters, Jeanette (Ron) Walters and Julie Godbey.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Edwin Godbey. Jerry proudly served and was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1987.

Jerry first worked for the Department of Corrections in Arizona and then on to the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Pekin, Illinois. He retired in 2017 after 23 years of service. Jerry was close to and loved his work family as his own.

Jerry loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren, having holiday parties and BBQ’s in the summer. He took great pride in his yard, lawnmower, and family hot tub. All of his coworkers and friends knew him as a Facebook warrior. In his free time, he enjoyed Marvel and Stan Lee Movies. He was proud of his garage that he worked on with his son where they would hold their family parties.

His visitation will be from 4 to 6:15 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2020 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Social distancing and guidelines regarding masks will apply. His funeral will follow the visitation and will be livestreamed on Preston-Hanley’s Facebook page. Chaplin Jeff Rendon will officiate.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the family for funeral expenses.
