Jessie was born in Highmore, South Dakota. She grew up in Highmore with her two brothers, Donald and Douglas, and three sisters, June, Mildred and Evelyn.

She attended South Dakota Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, South Dakota and taught one year in a one room school in Agar, South Dakota.

She met her husband, Richard Swanson, at a dance in 1941 and married 12/28/41 .
After WWII Dick and Jessie moved to Chamberlain, SD.
They had three children, Joan Ann (deceased), James and Patricia.
In 1957 they relocated to the Portland area in 1957.

Jessie taught kindergarten in Metzker, Oregon, first grade at Charles F Tigard Elementary in Tigard, and third grade at Durham Elementary School. She loved teaching and all the kids.

After retirement, Jessie and Dick enjoyed traveling across United States in their travel trailer. They took a cruise to the Panama Canal and traveled to Europe twice. They spent their winters in the Palm Springs area and enjoyed visiting with their friends.

They were active in the Tigard Methodist Church and volunteered for Meals on wheels. Jessie and Dick enjoyed many years of square dancing.

Our Mom was a fantastic cook and we all will miss her cooking, especially holiday meals and cinnamon rolls. She loved to read and always had a list of more books to read.

She had 1 Granddaughter, Jessica, who she loved to visit and took her on many adventures. Also, 1 Great Grand-daughter, Madison. She loved reading to her and visiting with her.

Survivors include: Son-James Swanson, Daughter-Patricia Myers, Son In-Law-Robert Myers. Grand-daughter-Jessica Webster, her Husband -Jeremiah Webster and Great Grand-Daughter-Madison Webster .
