Jessie Mae Thomas Gadsden entered eternal rest on October 24, 2017 in Missouri City, Texas. She was 91 years old. Jessie was born on October 10, 1926 in Columbia, South Carolina to Edna and John Thomas. She was one of five siblings. Jessie left her home in the south as a young woman to pursue a career in nursing in New York City. She took a hiatus from her career to marry Isiah Gadsden and raise three children. Jessie resumed her career as an LPN at Nassau County Medical Center in Uniondale N.Y. Jessie retired after 20 years of service. Jessie was a devoted and beloved mother and grandmother. She was an avid reader and loved flowers. She instilled a love of learning in her children, each of whom completed post graduate degrees and became successful in their career paths.
Jessie is survived by her daughters Carolyn Gadsden-Holliday, Kim Gadsden-Knowles, sons-in-law Keith Holliday, and Samuel Knowles Jr., her sister, Edna Elkins, brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Mary Thomas, sister-in-law, Ruby Thomas as well as many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Jessie was a devoted grandmother to Chris Holliday, Kayla Holliday, Kara Holliday, Kyle Holliday, and Sterling Knowles. Jessie was predeceased by her husband Isiah Gadsden, her son John Henderson, Jr., and her brothers, Wilbert Thomas and Oliver Thomas.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 30, 2017 at 10:00 at the Davis-Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg, Texas. The family will receive visitors at home on Sunday, October 29, 2017 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.
