Jewel Faye Horn, 95, formerly of Austwell, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017. Faye was born in Point, Texas to the late Boza Bishop and Iona Windham Pittillo on May 29, 1921. She attended Prospect Elementary School and was a graduate of Rains County High School in Emory, TX. Faye proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Communications Translator during World War II and was stationed in San Diego, California. During this time, she met the love of her life, Jack Horn. She graduated from East Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science and a Masters Degree in Elementary Education. Faye taught Kindergarten at Rains County Elementary School for 20 years. Upon retirement, she moved back to Austwell and dedicated her time to her family, being a homemaker, and renewing friendships. Faye enjoyed her activities with the Order of the Eastern Star Violet Chapter #158 Port Lavaca, the Victoria County Senior Citizens Center, and was a member of the Austwell United Methodist Church.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents; 7 brothers; 3 sisters; grandsons, Tray Kelso and Joe Edwards; and son-in-law, Everett Appelt.
She is survived by her children, Carolyn (Kenneth) Kelso, Deborah Appelt, and Thomas (Kim) Edwards; grandchildren, Kristin (Jack) Franzino, Kelly (Tony) Holland, Dempsey (Julia) Applet, Damon (Paige) Appelt, James Edwards; 17 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 5 to 7 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, Victoria, Texas. Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Tivoli Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be great grandchildren: Joseph "JT", Sarah, Madelyn and Mark Franzino; Luke and Alyssa Holland; Nathaniel Appelt; Eva and Hallie Appelt.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Austwell United Methodist Church, Hospice of South Texas, Tivoli Cemetery or Donor's Choice.
