Longtime Central Texas resident, Jimmie Lewallen Gibbs was called home to be the with Lord, Wednesday, September 6th, 2017. She passed away peacefully at Brookdale Westlake Village in Austin Texas, with her only child, Elisa Berkman Mooring at her side. There will be a short visitation at 10:30 a.m. at the Eddy Cemetery, followed by a graveside service, with the Reverend Mickey Fugitt officiating.

Jimmie LaDean Lewallen was born December 23, 1927, to Ada Slate and Buck Lewallen, in Coleman Texas. She had two younger sisters, Fawn Whitely and Mary Gan. Although the family moved several times, between the areas of Central, West Texas, and New Mexico, Eddy, Texas was always home in her heart. She attended and graduated early from Bruceville Eddy high school. She was a member of First Baptist church of Eddy where she attended services often with her mother and sisters. Jimmie was also a member of Eddy Garden Club, Waco Dental Auxiliary, The Waco Chapter of Hadassah, and the Better Business Bureau Central Texas.

Mrs. Gibbs is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Woodrow Gibbs; parents, Ada and Buck Lewallen; sisters, Mary Gan and Fawn Whitely; niece, Candace Gan; and nephew Anthony Whitely.

Survivors include her daughter, Elisa Berkman Mooring and husband, Matt; grandchildren, Josh, Amanda, Michael, and McKenzie; nieces Pam Wallace, Cindy Hunter, and Debbie Gan; and nephews, Casey Gan, and Ira and Phil Whitely.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the Brookdale 3rd floor staff members, Joyce, Florence, Alana, Alee, David, Eglis, Sarah, Paige, Evan, Rocio, Alycia, Hiwot, and Ana, as well as Brookdale Hospice staff Lucinda, Allee, Julie, and Michelle for the exceptional and loving care Mrs. Gibbs received during her stay at the Brookdale center.

Due to the devastation from multiple hurricanes, these past weeks, the family kindly requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Salvation Army or animal rescue groups such as Austin Pets Alive or the personal charity of choice.
