Jimmy Wayland (Rab) Love, 82, passed away on June 16, 2017, at home with his family in Baytown, Texas, after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Rab was born on August 1, 1934, in Stonewall County, Texas, to Houston and Minnie Polvadore Love. Most of his young life was spent in Colorado City, Texas, working in the oil fields. He married Joan Swann in Colorado City on January 18, 1959. In 1973, he and Joan and their three children, Linda, Jim and Ellen, moved to Baytown, where he retired from Anheuser-Busch after 35 years of service.
Rab was a man who spoke his mind and lived his life on his own terms, but he was also compassionate and always willing to help anyone in need, whether they were a family member, a neighbor or a complete stranger. He was known for his funny colloquialisms and his fondness for nicknames - if he liked you, you got a nickname. Rab enjoyed riding his bicycle around the neighborhood, tending to his pecan trees and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Rab was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Durwood Love. He is survived by his wife, Joan; daughter, Linda Knox, of Houston, Texas; son, Jim Love, of Baytown, Texas; daughter, Ellen Ward and partner, Jason Brown, of Baytown Texas; five grandchildren, Cody Love and wife, Amanda, Laura Ward, Lee Ward, Natalie Knox and Camryn Knox; two great grandchildren, Layla Love and Teddy Love; brothers, Waymon Love, Eldon Love and Charles Love; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home in Colorado City, Texas, on Monday, June 26, 2017, with funeral services to immediately follow, and burial will be at Colorado City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
