JoAnn Marie Druin, 77, passed away after a long illness Wednesday, January 10, 2018, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born in Hawesville, Kentucky on March 22, 1940 to the late James Carter and to Dorothy Hall of Evansville, IN who recently moved to Fresno, CA.

She was preceded in death by her son Mitchell Goebel and her daughter Kristie Liane Druin-Martin as well as her sister Sue Knaebel and her life partner Donald Dukes aka Running Horse.

JoAnn was artistic and created hundreds of colorful multi-media pieces over her lifetime. She valued loyalty, freedom, and justice. She earned her GED while raising six busy children; she cooked thousands of meals and washed thousands of loads of laundry. She always revered the elderly and had compassion for those who suffer. She honored her Native American ancestry by attending rituals and making authentic ceremonial tools; for decades, she wore multiple handmade turquoise rings. Late in life, she became a Christian and a member of Holcomb Rock Baptist Church, growing in faith under the guidance of David and Diane Stewart. Her favorite question was, "What time is it?" And the answer was, "Now. The time is now." Before two of her children died, they each stressed that we only have the present moment.

Survivors include her mother, Dorothy Hall; her children, Matthew Goebel, Peggy Macmillan and husband Patrick, Greg Goebel, Kelly Satterwhite and husband Gene; her grandchildren, Aaron and Megan Goebel, Alisha Warren and husband David, Josh Burns, Emma and Katherine Macmillan, and Gus Satterwhite and wife Megan; great grandchildren Killian and Minnie Warren and Tanner Kerr.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Holcomb Rock Baptist Church. Interment will be at Briarwood Memorial Park at 4 pm.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Helping Hands Ministry at Holcomb Rock Baptist Church, 5184 Boonsboro Road, Lynchburg, VA 24503.
