Joanna Taranto Oliphant was called to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the age of 85. She was married 61 years to her loving husband, the late Tommy Oliphant, a retired New Orleans Fireman. Together they enjoyed 35 years of square dancing and met so many wonderful lifelong friends. Joanna graduated from Sacred Heart in 1945 where she became an Alumni Board Member and was later honored to be a lifetime Board Member. She worked in the public health field after graduation and later became an office manager until retirement. To know Joanna was to love Joanna. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be greatly loved and missed by all her family and friends.
Joanna is survived by her daughter, Patricia Couvillion (John), her grandson, Jay Couvillion (Vicki), her great granddaughters, Taylor and Eve Couvillion, her cousin, Tana Lapini, her nephew, Timothy Rosenstein, her niece, Ann Harris Jones, her lifelong friends, Willie and Effie Daigle and family and "The Church People". She was preceded in death by her cousin, Peter Spano.
Her family would like to express their gratitude to her wonderful caregivers, Jean Snowdon, Trudy Hall, Dee Thomas, Veronica Montrel, all the doctors especially Dr. Elena Rada at EJGH, the nurses, CNAs, Chateau Living Center, St. Joseph's & Woldenberg Nursing Homes and Emeritus at Kenner. They are truly angels walking the earth.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Dr. Metairie, LA on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM and also on Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 9:00 AM until mass time. Interment will be in Hope Mausoleum in New Orleans, LA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests family requests prayers, masses, or contributions to the School Sisters of Notre Dame, c/o St. Mary of the Pines, P.O. Box 38, Chatawa, MS 39632-3167 a cause that has always been close to her heart.
