John Antonio Borba, 89, passed peacefully at home, into the arms of his Lord on April 25, 2017. John was a generous man and loved by everyone he encountered. He was born in Chino on June 15, 1927, the third of five children, to Pete and Maria Borba and spent his entire childhood in Chino, graduating from Chino High School in 1945.John married Emily Fernandes in 1948 and settled in his hometown where they raised four sons on the family dairy farm, they moved to Upland in 1963. John was a member of the Ontario Elks and an avid golfer,traveling with Emily often to play courses around the world, building treasured friendships along the way that would last their lifetimes. He and Emily were members of Red Hill Country Club for many years until they moved to Bermuda Dunes in 1986, where John was a frequent participant in the Bob Hope Classic golf tournament. John and Emily moved a final time, in 2005, to Toscana Country Club in Indian Wells, where both spent their remaining days.Among John's proudest achievements were his family, and being one of the founding fathers of Chino Valley Bank, which was established in 1974, later renamed Citizens Business Bank, and became an admired and acclaimed institution, one of the top ten largest banks based in California. John served on its board of directors until his retirement in 2012.John is survived by his four sons and daughters-in-law, John Jr & Cyndie of Upland, Tom & Karen of Ontario, Steve & Cathy of Chino, Ricci & Paula of Anaheim Hills; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Borba-Parente, and sisters-in-law, Dolores and Doleen Borba, Elsie Marks, Vangie Fernandes and Kay Fernandes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emily, and granddaughter, Tricia. Services will be held Wednesday, May 10, at St Anthony's Catholic Church, 2110 San Antonio Ave, Upland, CA 91784. Rosary will begin at 10:00 am, followed by mass at 11:00. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park, 1240 W G St, Ontario, CA 91762.
