Lt. Col. John Chester Malinowski, Jr. (USMC Ret.) died peacefully at his home in Stafford, VA. On Saturday, May 20th. John was born in 1943 in Albany, NY, the son of John Chester, Sr. and Veronica (Delehanty) Malinowski. He attended Hudson Valley Community College and began his 28 year career in the United States Marine Corps in 1963. He served proudly with honor and distinction, completing three tours in Vietnam, as well as tours in Japan, the Mediterranean and numerous assignments stateside. John's last assignment was at Quantico VA, and he and his family settled permanently in Stafford, VA. After retiring from the Corps, he began his second career as a realtor. John was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and the Washington Redskins. But his greatest joy was spending time with his adored wife, children and five grandchildren who were the light of his life. John is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Barbara Giddens Malinowski, his daughter Laura Mooney (Courtland), of Aurora, CO, his son John C. Malinowski, III (Julie) of Ocean City, MD, his daughter Theresa Crocker (Charles) of King George, VA, his brother Robert Malinowski of Liverpool, NY and his sisters Rosemary and Mary Lou Malinowski and Joanne Monahan (John), all of Albany NY. John is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Nathaniel and Megan Mooney, Emily and John C. Malinowski, IV, and C.J. Crocker. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Services will be held at Mullins and Thompson, 186 Shelton Shop Rd, Stafford Virginia on Thursday, May 25th. Visitation 1pm memorial service 2pm. A reception will follow at Buffalo MO's Sports Bar & Grill. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery to follow at a later date.
