John Colannino, Jr, 89, went to God and family on October 18, 2017. John was born on December 22, 1927, in Providence, RI. He was the husband of Hilda Dorothy Colannino, father to Lisa Colannino Bennett and Julie Colannino Brown, father-in-law to the late William L. Bennett and Timothy L. Brown, grandfather to Connor Bennett, Hunter Bennett, and Isabella Brown.

Vigil will be held at Sunset Park Northwest on November 8, 2017, at 6:30 in the evening. Funeral mass will be held at St. Luke Catholic Church on November 9, 2017, at 10 AM followed by reception in the parish hall. Interment will take place at Fort Sam Houston at 2:30. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family at St. Luke Catholic church. John, son of the late John Colannino, Sr. and Elizabeth Paolino, attended Mount Pleasant High School in Providence. After graduation, John was drafted into the army where he spent two years driving amphibious vehicles. Upon discharge, he attended Brown University. In 1951, he met the love of his life, Dorothy. They married and lived near family and friends in Providence until he joined the Civil Service and was transferred to Mobile, AL. in 1963, he was transferred to Kelly AFB in San Antonio, TX, where he worked in logistics achieving a 12 rating. John and Dorothy began attending St. Luke Catholic Church where they were founding members of the Our Lady of Angels Family Guild. The Family Guild became their second family. It still exists today and meets frequently for lunch. In addition, John was a founding member of the St. Luke's Men's Club and the St. Luke's chapter of the Knights of Columbus. John retired from Civil Service in 1987, but continued to keep busy volunteering for NARFE doing income taxes for seniors and playing golf and bridge with his many friends. John and Dorothy recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
John is preceded in death by his sisters Sandra Reese and Evelyn Calderone; his brothers-in-law Bill Reese, Bill Calderone, Angelo Danella, Eddie Danella, Carlo Danella, Don Cannavaro, and Gerald Procaccini; his sisters-in-law Mary Danella, Anna Danella, and Aulda Procaccini. He is survived by his brother Robert Colannino and wife, Gilda, sister-in-law Jilda Cannavaro, and numerous nieces and nephews.
