John D. Mixon, 76, of Machesney Park, IL. was welcomed into heaven on Wednesday, November 15, 2017. In a life well celebrated he married Vicki Hofmann in May 1964 and together shared 53 years while raising their five children. John worked for Equipment Depot formerly Geraghty Industrial and Material Handling Services for over 43 years in many capacities but most favorably as a truck driver and his travels brought him many adventures and friendships. Along with his sons, he enjoyed working on cars, fishing, and showcasing his talents on the golf course. Together with his wife they enjoyed traveling together. John earned the respect of his family and offered wise council . He was most content when surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Heartland Hospice's, Amy Bellone and Personal Assistant, Tyson Lomax. John was a long time active member of North Love Baptist Church and willingly embraced the title of bus driver for all the kid's events. He also joined Windsor Baptist Church and carried on the title of bus driver. John came to know his Savior on March 10, 1975. John was born August 31, 1941 in Hackberry, TN. to Bailey and Maggie (Vick) Mixon.

Survived by: wife, Vicki; children, John R. (Amy) Mixon , Kevin (Angie) Mixon, Carri (Jason) Blades, Allen Mixon, Tina Mixon; grandchildren, Tyler, Tanner, Tayler, Noah, Nicholas, Caitlin, Brianna, Jordan, Alyssa; sister, Jinnie Sue Rittenberry . Predeceased by parents; four sisters; three brothers.

A Celebration of Life Service: 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21 at Sunset Funeral Home 8800 N. Alpine Rd. Machesney Park, IL. with Ron Greene officiating. Visitation: 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday November 21 at Sunset Funeral Home. Burial Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
