Old Lyme- John D. Byron, 89, died December 21st, 2015 at his residence.
Mr. Byron was born on April 7, 1926 in Santa Barbara, California, the son of Walter and Helen Byron. He served honorably in the US Navy during World War II. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Wesleyan University after the war, and began working at 3M Company, retiring as a Marketing Director after 39 years of service.
He spent most of his career in the Midwest, living in Minnesota and Missouri, but his love was Old Lyme, Connecticut where his wife, Anne, was from and to where they retired after his career with 3M. Mr. Byron was an avid tennis, golf and croquet player, winning several singles and doubles croquet tournaments throughout his lifetime at Old Black Point, where he and Anne were members. He was also a member of Black Hall Club and loved The Masters as his favorite golf event. He was full of stories, always having an infectious smile and laugh. His favorite dessert was Key Lime Pie, which he enjoyed tremendously in his final days; as he said, "I want Key Lime Pie for breakfast, lunch and dinner," grinning from ear to ear. He will be missed!
Mr. Byron is survived by his three sons, John Byron Jr. of Niantic, Connecticut, Andrew Byron of Pleasanton, California, and Stuart Byron of Portland, Oregon and 12 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Anne and son Curtis.
Services will be at St. Ann's Episcopal Church, Old Lyme, Ct. on May 14th at 3:30 pm. Close friends and family are welcome to attend.
