John Ervin Godley of Avondale, MO died Wednesday night, November 16, 2011 at NorthCare Hospice from complications of cancer. Born in 1934 in Taberville, MO, John was the sixth of eight siblings. He graduated from Rockville High School in 1952. John served in the US Army spending time in Germany. He moved to Kansas City and pursued a career in lithography. He met Pauleen Thomas Mynatt and they married in 1963. John became father to Pauleen's three kids, Jean, Jan and Kris. In 1964, John and Pauleen added a daughter, Julie to their family.
John worked for Frank Moses Printing for many years and was a member of GCIU Local 235M. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and caring for his dogs. In the summer, he tended a large vegetable garden. In recent years, John was a devoted caregiver to wife Pauleen.
John is preceded in death by grandson James Gordon Seise, brother, James Clarence Godley, sisters, Rose Long and Mary Breshears and nephew Larry Breshears. He leaves behind wife, Pauleen, daughters, Jean Oltvedt, Jan Casady (Roger) and Julie Seise (Michael) and son Kris Mynatt. He will be missed by grandchildren Rachael Moore (Terry), Sarah Stueve (Colin), Kris II Mynatt, Maren Oltvedt, Emma Seise, Tucker Seise and Thomas Casady and great-grandchildren Cole and Jaden Moore and Loretta Stueve. He also leaves behind sisters, Arvella Fenwick (Bob), Patty Schmidt (Gene) and Fannie Fenwick (Richard) and brother Frank Godley (Barbara).
John will be missed not only by his large extended family but by many friends and neighbors that he touched with his humor, handiness, and generosity. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions in John's name to NorthCare Hospice.
Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 20 at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 21 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery, Liberty, MO.
