Newton Junction, NH John F. Swasey Jr., 91, died August 13, 2009 at the Exeter Hospital. He was born January 8, 1918 in Brentwood, NH, son of the late John F. and E. Christine (Currier) Swasey Sr. John was a longtime resident of Newton, NH. He was a graduate of the Sanborn Seminary, Class of 1936, University of NH, Class of 1940. Mr. Swasey served for five years in the US Army, during WWII. He remained enlisted in the US Army Reserve for 25 years and retired with a bronze star and the rank of Major. Mr. Swasey worked most of his life in the accounting and banking industry. He worked as an accountant at Towle Silversmiths in Newburyport, MA and then later as a Bank manager for Family Mutual Bank in Haverhill, MA John was very active within the community and with local fraternal organizations. He served on the Newton School Board for many years, was a former member of the Newton Civil Defense Team, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2181, a former board member of the NH Farm Museum, a former President of the Country Pond Fish and Game Club, a member of the Newton Lions Club, a 63 year member of the Eastern Star in the East Masonic Lodge of Exeter, a member of the Brentwood Grange and now the East Kingston, NH Wingold Grange #308. John had a lifelong interest and commitment to Sanborn Seminary which later became Sanborn Regional High School, remaining active in Sanborn related issues and events and a member of the Sanborn Seminary Board of Trustees. He was Trustee of Trust Funds in Newton, NH and was on the School Board for Sanborn Regional High School. Mr. Swasey was a devoted family man who always enjoyed attending his grandchildrens' sporting and social events. In his spare time, John was an avid card player. In his life, John enjoyed hunting, fishing and managing his wood lot in Brentwood. He was pre deceased by his twin brother and 7 older sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ruth (Locke) Swasey of Newton Junction, NH, 2 sons and their wives, Charlton and Vanessa Swasey of Kingston, NH, Dexter and Lisa Swasey of Brentwood, NH, 5 grandchildren, Ethan Swasey, Sarah Swasey, Joshua Swasey, Nathaniel Swasey, and Rachel Swasey, 2 great-grandchildren, Levi and Dylan Swasey, 2 brothers, Joseph Swasey of Brentwood, NH and Robert Swasey of Exeter, NH, several nieces and nephews. There are no calling hours. At Johns request, private funeral services will be held for the family. Burial with military honors will be held in the Brentwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to The Sanborn Seminary Trustees, PO Box 477, Kingston, NH 03848 for the scholarship that John had so proudly established years ago.
