John Francis Walsh, 90, of East Windsor, CT, beloved husband of Ruth (Bruzgis) Walsh, passed away peacefully at home on January 22, 2020 surrounded by family.
Born in Hartford, CT, on October 25, 1929, he was the son of the late John J. and Mary Walsh. John was raised in Hartford and was a graduate of A.I. Prince Technical School, Class of 1946.
John spent his early years in Hartford with his two brothers. He is remembered fondly for being an incredibly kind boy who helped others to see the best in themselves and to achieve great things. John was a long time member of the Greater Hartford Club of the Deaf, and loved participating in the various bowling, softball, and basketball leagues. For many years, he attended St. Joseph's church and was an active member of the Deaf community.
John attended A.I. Prince to study the printing trade. After graduating, he took a job at The Phoenix in Enfield, CT. He retired from that position in 1994, after over forty two years with the company. He was proud to have helped his nephew and daughter obtain a position within the company and loved being able to spend additional time with his family.
John was an avid family man. He was a proud father. He loved helping his children enjoy the many activities that they participated in. John was always happy to attend any family dinner, vacation, sporting event, to spend more time with his children or grandchildren.
When home with his wife, they loved spending time together doing puzzles, crosswords, or just watching TV. A more well-suited match would be hard to find. They especially loved watching the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and the UConn Women's basketball teams.
John was an amazing man; very selfless and loving. The ideal grandpa, anything to make his grandchildren happy, and always just happy to be a part of their lives.
John's devotion to family continues through his children and wife, as they spent the greater part of the past 6 months at his bedside, devoted to the man who spent so much of his life devoted to them.
Besides his loving wife Ruth, he leaves a daughter, Maryanna Clark and her husband Fred of East Granby, CT; a son, Joseph J Walsh and his wife Melissa of East Granby, CT; three granddaughters, Julia, Ava, and Kelsea Walsh; one grandson, John Walsh; one brother, Daniel Walsh and his wife Jeanne of Ellington, CT; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Kozak of Newtown, PA; a sister-in-law, Patricia Walsh of Anderson, CA., and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
He was predeceased by a brother, Dennis Walsh and two brothers-in-law, Joseph Bruzgis and Michael Kozak.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Greater Hartford Club of the Deaf, 20 Bigelow Street, East Hartford, CT 06108 or the Newington Senior & Disabled Center located on 120 Cedar St, Newington, CT. 06111.
The family will hold private services at a later date.
