YOUNG, JOHN K., 92, of Winter Park, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2017. The celebration of John’s life will be held at First United Methodist Church of Winter Park at 125 N. Interlachen Ave., Winter Park, FL. 32789 at 3:00 on Friday August 25th, 2017. John is survived by his 2 sons, James M. Keel III of Atlanta, GA. (wife Hallie and sons Austin and Spencer), Thomas A. Keel of Orlando, (wife Stephanie and their daughters Lauren and Kristina), and his niece Rebecca G. Kenison, and nephews Daniel J. Gatchet and James W. Gatchet of the Seattle, WA. area. He will join his beloved wife of 32 years, Lucy, where they will be interred for eternity together in Arlington National Cemetery. John was born in Wenatchee, WA. on June 15, 1925. He was raised in the Lake Chelan area of North Central Washington. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp. (USAF) in 1943 and proudly served 25 years as a navigator, retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel from the Special Air Warfare School at Hurlburt/Eglin Air Force Base in the panhandle of Florida in 1968. In addition, he flew secret missions during the Cold War while stationed in Alaska and trained Air Force personnel in hand-to-hand combat prior to their tour of duty in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. He graduated with a Master’s in Education from Rollins College, and proudly taught math and was a track coach and official for 35 years in the Central Florida area. John was a proud usher for many years at FUMCWP, and he will be missed by the hundreds of people whose life he touched over the years during his military service and the time spent with his family in Winter Park.
