John Marvin Henry was born February 12, 1932, in Waldo, Arkansas to Benjamin Delmer Henry Sr. and Carolyn Young. He was baptized and attended St. John AME Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. John graduated valedictorian from Lanwood High School on May 18, 1950. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on January 27, 1953 where he was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal.



John Marvin Henry received his Bachelor of Science degree from the Agricultural Mechanical and Normal College in May of 1959 and his Master's degree from the University of Arkansas of Little Rock in May 1963. On July 22, 2971, John received his private pilot license from the Federal Aviation Agency.



John Marvin Henry was married to Ernestine Bowie on May 28, 1956. They were happily married for 61 years. To this union six children were born, one of which preceded him in death. John Henry had a vast professional background that stated as a high school teacher in Arkansas. He advanced his career with the United States Department of Agriculture where he retired after 23 years of service. However, his personality would not allow him to remain idle, therefore he began work with the State of Texas where he retired after 10 years.



John had numerous hobbies that spanned from playing classical piano to video games. He was known as a "Fly Guy" because of his love for aviation. From room additions to doll houses, John was a craftsman who loved creating works of art. With all his achievements John considered his family his greatest accomplishment. In fact, John Marvin Henry considered himself "rich."
