John “Johnny” William McDonald, 62, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Merit Health River Oaks Hospital in Flowood. Visitation will be held Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Lakewood Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at Clinton Cemetery. Lakewood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
John “Johnny” William McDonald was born September 7, 1955, in Jackson, Mississippi. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, William Franklin McDonald and Myra Yarbrough McDonald, J. V. Carr and Mary Wall Carr; his parents, Edward Franklin McDonald and Mary Carr McDonald.
He is survived by his brother, Dr. Frank McDonald (Shantha) of Gainesville, GA; his sister, Sonya Amis (Gary) of Clinton; his nieces, Dr. Heather McDonald, Asha McDonald, Shilpa Moorthy, and Amber Amis; nephews, Austin Amis, Andrew Amis, and Alex Amis. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins who all loved him dearly.
Johnny McDonald graduated from the Little Red School House and worked at Willowood Developmental Center. He lived at the Willowood Group Home in Clinton where he enjoyed participating in social activities with his friends, swimming, fishing and listening to music. He was a member of Morrison Heights Baptist Church where he enjoyed attending Sunday School. Johnny moved to Jaquith Nursing Home following an illness in 2014.
The family would like to thank Johnny’s care team at Jaquith, the group home parents, friends and staff at Willowood, the doctors and nurses at River Oaks, and his Sunday School teachers, Barbara Winborne and Pamela Thompson for many years of love and support.
