TOPEKA ~ John Earl Montgomery, 69, of Topeka, passed away at 2:54 a.m. Thursday, January 16, 2020 at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.

He was born May 5, 1950 in Pekin to Perry and Lois (McGinnes) Montgomery. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are four siblings, Dale (Laxine) Montgomery of Creve Coeur, Janet (Larry) Monroe of South Pekin, Dick “Richard” Montgomery of Missouri and Roger (Diane) Montgomery of Topeka.

John had served in the United States Army as an M.P. traveling the world.

He had worked in security for Butternut in Peoria. Earlier in his career John served as Police Officer for both South Pekin and Delavan and was also a volunteer firefighter for South Pekin and Manito.

John enjoyed watching television. In his youth he enjoyed riding horses.

His graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Woodrow Cemetery in rural Pekin. Pastor Ken Stewart will officiate.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
