John Paul Stroup, know as JP, was born of Rose Eleanor McMullin and Frederick Howard Stroup in Kokomo, Indiana, on December 4, 1923. JP passed away in Midland, Texas on September 20, 2017.

JP received his elementary and high school education in various Catholic schools in Indiana and Missouri and was awarded a full scholarship to St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of thirty three years, Adaline M. Hamilton Blase, and by his parents and all of his two sisters and two brothers, as well as, by his first wife, Ann Garcie-Pitau.

JP is survived by Tom Blase, his stepson and his wife, Sherrilyn; his step daughter Donna Aguirre and her son Karl Rimkus; Tom Blase, Jr., step grandson, and his wife Ashley; Melissa Romero, step granddaughter, and her husband David, plus numerous great grandchildren. JP is also survived by his son JP Jr. and Chystle Stroup, the mother of JP's six grandchildren, Owen, Reed, Nimes, Danka, Ginger and Mitchell.

JP was a US Air Force aircraft pilot during WWII, Korea, and thereafter in the active and US Air Force reserve until retirement at the Grade of Lt. Colonel. He was active for many years as a member of the Midland Downtown Lions Club, and part time Sacristan with his wife, Adaline, and lector at St. Ann's Catholic Church, as well as, a member of an exclusive pilot's club, the QB's.

JP was happy as a transplant to Midland Texas in 1986. After a short period of 'adjustment', West Texas became his home and he was very proud to be known thereafter as a 'Texan'. He basked in the love and attention of too many friends to try to name here, and he wants them all to know that he returns their love here and in the hereafter.

A memorial Mass will be take place on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at 9:30am in the St. Ann's Catholic Church Chapel. The family requests no flowers; however honorariums may be made to the Texas Lions Camp, PO Box 290247, Kerrville, TX, 78029-0247.
