John W. Hicks, 82, passed away Wednesday, January 3 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 8 at First United Methodist Church in Bryan. Interment will follow at Bryan City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 - 7 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

John was born March 29, 1935 in Bryan the son of Oliver Wendell and Thelma (Jones) Hicks. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School class of 1953 and was a building and lumber salesman and manager for over 40 years. John was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Advent Sunday School Class, and the United Methodist Men.

John enjoyed golfing, working as a Monday Morning volunteer at First United Methodist Church, spending time at his cabin at Camp Creek Lake, spending time with family, feeding wild birds and taking care of his two cats. He was a member of the Bryan Rotary Club, Board of Directors of Camp Creek and served as Secretary/Treasurer of Camp Creek Water Company for several years. John was also a member of Mended Hearts, and served as visiting committee chairman.

John is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kay D. "Jack" Hicks; and a brother-in-law, Ed Hill.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Frances Hicks; son, David Hicks; grandson, John R. Hicks; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby L. and Betty Hicks; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Richard Huey; sisters-in-law, Dorothy R. Hicks of Houston and Jeanne Hill of Lebanon, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
