John James "Jack" Weeks, 82, of Loves Park, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 18, 2017. Born January 8, 1935 in Rockford, IL. Son of Raymond A. and Margaret M. (Schricker) Weeks. Jack graduated from Rockford West High School, Rock Valley College and Western Illinois University. Served in the United State Air Force from 1952 to 1956, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Air Weather Service. Served two years at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois and two years at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii. After the service Jack served 29 years on the Rockford Police Dept. retiring as a Captain. During his career he served as a Patrol Officer, Detective, Patrol Sergeant and as a Lieutenant he commanded the Research and Development Division. As a Captain he commanded the Traffic Division, Detective Bureau and the Records and Communications Bureau. He also graduated from the FBI National Academy and the Senior Management Institute for Police. During his career he attended over thirty schools or seminars.

After he retired, Jack and Jean moved to Tombstone, AZ where they lived for 21 years before moving back to Loves Park to be near their families. While in Arizona Jack was active in the Tombstone American Legion, Tombstone Lions Club, King Solomon #5 Masonic Lodge and Sabbar Shrine of Tucson, AZ. He also volunteered as President of Tombstone Library Board, member of the planning and Zoning Commission and a member of the Citizen Advisory Commission to the Tombstone Marshall's office. Jack was known for his sense of humor and his frankness. You always knew where you stood with Jack. He will be greatly missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing him.

Survived by his wife, Mary Jean Weeks; daughters, Jill (Wally Houck) McBain, Jan (Don) Gwaltney, Julie (Cal) Callaway, Jeana (Steve) Lane, step-son, Todd Kurth; step-daughter, Shannon (Greg) Johnson; grandchildren, Joe McBain, Jordan (Annetta) McBain, Lyndzie Kaeding, Corey Olsen, Kaitlyn (Dean) Rocha, Sean McCammond, Stephanie McCammond, Ryan (Amala) Swenson, John (Alia) Swenson, Savannah Hoy; great-grandchildren, Jayden McBain, Jett McBain, Marley Rocha, Zion Rocha, Henrick Swenson.

Celebration of Jack's Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park. Father Wentink will be officiating the service. Visitation at 12 p.m. until time of service. Full Military Honors. Inurnment will take place in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
