Joseph J. Gatti, 96, beloved husband of Teresa (Cerri) Gatti of Vernon, died Tuesday (April 11, 2006) at a local nursing home. Born on March 19, 1910 son of the late, Angelo and Pierina (Bastiani) Gatti, he had lived in Windsor Locks for over seventy years before moving to Vernon 22 years ago. Mr. Gatti was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and retired from the Dexter Corporation, Windsor Locks. He was an Assistant Chief and a 35-year member of the Windsor Locks Fire Department, was a member of the VFW, Windsor Locks and was the oldest living member of the 1928 Windsor Locks High School Baseball Team. Joseph also enjoyed fishing with his wife. In addition to his wife of 59 years, Teresa, he leaves a daughter and her husband, Diane and Frank Intino of South Windsor; a sister, Carolyn; four grandchildren, Sean Haugh, with Jonelle, Candice Intino-Casey and her husband, Jesse Casey, Anthony J. Intino and Frank A. Intino, II and a great grandson, Joshua Bean Haugh. He was predeceased by a brother, Mario Gatti, Funeral service will be held, Thursday 2 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor. Burial with military honors will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Suffield. His family will receive friends today, from 5-8 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may he made to the Windsor Locks Fire Department, 2 Volunteer Dr., Windsor Locks, CT 06096.
