Joseph was like the Phoenix that graced his back--constantly rising from the flames beyond what seemed humanly possible. Joseph fought a long and difficult battle with cancer and remained positive and determined to win until the moment he passed. Joseph passed fearlessly with dignity and grace at home surrounded by his beloved wife, son, parents & brother, Ed.

Joseph started his life adventures by joining the Coast Guard, where he attended culinary school, and spent time serving in Alaska & California. Joe attended college in California majoring in business and after graduation had a full and varied career in the restaurant industry as both a chef and general manager of many diversified restaurant and bar concepts in Southern California, San Francisco, Chicago, South Florida and Philadelphia.

Joe loved people, was a fearless leader, patient mentor, loyal friend, animal lover, had a wicked sense of humor, a "can do attitude", the will of a warrior and a love for life that never dimmed even in the darkest of times. Joseph was a passionate foodie; however, hated the term. He was an avid wine connoisseur, Food Network junkie, and fabulous cook that showed his love to others through his culinary creations. Joseph had many and varied interests including a great love of music (especially Led Zeppelin) and the arts, cheering for the Chargers, watching Brave Heart too many times, reading, debating politics and discussing current events. He embodied the sun, surf and sand lifestyle, was spontaneous, romantic and passionate in all his life endeavors. Joe loved to travel and was planning on attending Mardi Gras in the coming year. Joseph always said spending time with his wife, son, and pets were all he needed in life to be happy.

Joseph was predeceased by his beloved sister Linda. He leaves behind his soulmate Karen; son Alex; parents Joseph & Arlene McCarthy; brothers Loren McCarthy; Edward McCarthy (Theresa Pivar); Matthew McCarthy (Linda) and sisters Karen Schect (Russ); and Laura Pytell (Paul). He also is survived by many nephews and one niece.

Joseph was laid to rest in Lake Worth, Florida at the South Florida National Cemetery, where the sun will always shine upon him and bring him the warmth that he gave to everyone in his life.

A celebration of his life will be held on a future date at Ft Lauderdale Beach with his requested Prime Rib, Baked Potato and Green Beans prepared by his "BBQ family", Wade, Clare & Robert.
