Obituary

Joseph R. Castenova, of Audubon, passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 26, 2021, He was 90 years old. Born June 13, 1930 in Norristown, he was the son of the late George and Theresa (nee Sabella) Castenova, and the beloved husband of the late Dorothy (nee Wheeler) Castenova.

Joe grew up in a poor Italian family in Norristown with his parents and 6 sisters.
He was always a very hard worker. Starting at 6 years old shining shoes on the streets and selling newspapers.

Joe's major passion was dancing. He loved to jitter bug, and was exceptional at it. He was so good , one time he was dancing and Chubby Checker was there and told him when he left the dance floor that he was one of the best Jitter Buggers he ever saw. He met his wife Dorothy at a local dance.

He joined the Air Force after he left high school, and became a sergeant. In the Air Force he worked nights in the commissary. Which led to him opening a grocery store when he left the service.

He successfully ran this deli (D & J DELI in Trooper) for the next 60 plus years along with his family.
Joe loved animals of all kind. He was always the one to bring home a new dog , even at one point, a monkey.
He also loved to play games. You could always find him playing cards or yahtzee with his sisters.

Joe is survived by his four children; Carol Kerr (John Kleba), Janet Denick (Dr. Dennis), Nancy Denick (Kevin) and Joseph Jr., (Lisa), seven grandchildren; Nikki, Angela , Amanda , Stephanie , Ian, Gabrielle and Lindsay, seven great grandchildren; Joel, Evan, Kendall, Jaxson, Matthew, Colton and Kaydn as well as two sisters; Catherine Donofrio (the Late Phil) and Theresa Waldron (the late Jack).

Relatives and friends are invited to share in Joe's Life Celebration on Friday February 5, from 9:30 AM to 10:50 AM at Boyd-Horrox-Givnish of East Norriton, 200 West Germantown Pike, 610-277-7000. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Joe's funeral service and entombment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe's name can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
