Joseph P. Tony, 95 of Peoria passed away at Proctor Hospital in Peoria on January 5, 2018. He was a lifelong resident of Peoria spending his last few years at Buehler Home.

He was born to Tony and Mary (Michael) John on October 30, 1922 in Peoria IL.

Joseph attended Manual Training High School in Peoria and graduated in 1940. Upon completion of high school he joined the United States Army Airforce and enlisted in July of 1942 he was honorably discharged in October of 1945.

Joseph married Gladys Kouri on May 22, 1956 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Peoria. They were married for 32 years before she preceded him in death on December 18, 1988.

He worked as a switchman for many years on the Peoria Pekin and Union Railway and retired in 1983. Joe enjoyed his retirement years by volunteering at Share Food, walking the trails at Forest Park Nature Center and Glen Oak Park, as well as gardening. For many years he enjoyed his Monday lunch at the Lariat with family and friends.

Joseph is survived by his four children Albert (Sue) Tony of Peoria, Mary (Brian) Cagle of Washington, Agnes Couri of Peoria, John (Margo) Tony of Peoria. Six grandchildren; Stephen and Kelly Tony of Peoria, Chad Cagle of Washington, Jessica (David) Olson of Metamora, Jeremy Belt of Arizona, Grace Tony of Peoria. Two great grandchildren Addison and Charlotte Olson of Metamora. One sister Elizabeth Sears of Peoria.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings; Fayze, Angelina, Olivia, Father Stephen Souse, Martha Hendricks, and one son-in-law Anthony Jamil Couri.

A visitation will be held on Sunday January 7, 2018 held from 4:00-8:00 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church in Peoria.

A funeral service will be held on Monday January 8, 2018 at 10:30 with a visitation one hour prior.

A graveside service will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Peoria.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church in Peoria or donor’s choice.
