Josephine Bocanegra, 85, of Pasadena, Texas, entered Heaven's gates on January 3, 2018, while surrounded by loving family. She was born in Deepwater, Texas on May 24, 1932 to Inez and Julia Valencia, being the oldest of 12 children.
She was united in marriage to Isidro C. Bocanegra for 52 years and planted a family tree that would extend five generations in her lifetime. Josephine had many names; Momma, Mom, Grandma, Welita, Guma, Grandma Strawberry, Momma Strawberry. Her favorite color was red, like "The Pasadena Strawberry".
Family was priority, giving everything she had to give. Never forgetting each family member's birthday (including extended family and significant others), each looked forward to her early morning call. She had a craft for sneaking in silly comedy when least expected. She was the epitome of unconditional and ever forgiving love.
When not caring for family, Josephine was respectfully committed to her job as a custodian for Pasadena Independent School District and Modern Plumbing, even beyond the age of retirement.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Isidro C. Bocanegra; infant son, Inez Bocanegra; parents, Inez and Julia Valencia; brothers, Elias Valencia and Pete Valencia; sister, Doris Fuentes; great-granddaughter, Jenica Verdin; and great-great-grand baby, Zoey Isabella Lucio.
She is survived by her daughter, Connie Lucio; son, Manuel Bocanegra; daughter, Cindy and son-in-law, Louis Murray, Sr.; daughter, Julia McNair; son, Isidro Bocanegra, Jr.; daughter, Terry Bocanegra; 10 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers and 7 sisters.
She leaves behind her example of how we all should love, respect and forgive others regardless of ourselves.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 8, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 PM, with a Rosary Service at 6:00 PM, at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas, 77505. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held the following day on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 10:00 AM, at Saint Juan Diego Catholic Church, 3301 Pasadena Boulevard, Pasadena, Texas 77503.
The family would like to thank "The Courtyard of Pasadena," for their loving care of their mother.
Be still and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10
