Lela Josephine "Jo" Hearn Burelsmith, 84, was born to Henry Allen and Thelma Hearn on a farm in Lubbock County March 3, 1933. She was quite proud of her 3-3-33 birth date. She left this world for her heavenly home December 21, 2017.

She attended Roosevelt School and graduated from Idalou High School in 1950.

She married John Henry Burelsmith November 10, 1950 in Abernathy. Johnny farmed in Petersburg and Hale Center, and they raised their children there. She was very involved with her children's activities all through their years in Hale Center schools, and she loved being a farmer's wife.

In the 60's she received her LVN license and worked as a nurse for several years at the hospital in Hale Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Petersburg. In 2012 she moved to Abilene to assisted living.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny, in 1997, by her parents, and her brother, Donnie.
She is survived by her daughter Brenda and Don Brown of Hale Center, and son Terry and Polly of Abilene. Her grandchildren are Melinda Brown of Plainview, Cindy and Josh Munson of Bryan, and Brooke and Jasen Brown of Apopka, Florida; great-grandchildren are Brendon Brown, Caroline, Annaliese and Millicent Munson, and Masen, Emery, and Elenor Brown.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Tommy Farrell and Hendrick Hospice Care and their nursing staff for their kindness and loving care. They are also thankful for the care and support provided the last six years by Wesley Court and Mesa Springs.
